Frequently Asked Questions
Why should I garden with a Teich Garden System?

The biggest attraction of Teich Garden Systems to most people is the fact that deer, rabbits and other critters can’t get in.  Many of our customers are former vegetable gardeners who gave up gardening in frustration after losing crops to four-legged invaders time and again.

There are many other features that make gardening with a Teich Garden System a unique experience.  Our gardens are virtually weed-free because we install them with a high-quality weed blocking landscape film mulch.  You have the ability to water your garden while on vacation since each garden features a garden water timer.  The exterior walls act as trellises for vines and other crawling plants, dramatically increasing the yield that can be obtained from a relatively small growing space. Additionally, a Teich Garden System can be placed virtually anywhere on your property and is an activity that the whole family can enjoy.

How big is a Teich Garden System?

We are able to build Teich Garden Systems in a variety of sizes, ranging from as small as 8 feet x 10 feet up to 50 feet x 75 feet, combinations of, or larger.  However, our most popular garden size is 12 feet x 16 feet.  Garden systems this size include 4 large planting beds, 2 small “bonus” planting beds and three walkways.

What is a raised planting bed?

Raised bed gardening has evolved from a technique to warm the soil for earlier sowing to becoming a preferred method due to all the benefits.  Raised beds sit above rather than below the surface of the ground (although some longer perennial roots can easily grow deeper).  Raised beds enhance drainage and enable easier aeration (for both air and water) which leads to healthier plants, longer planting seasons, and larger harvests.  There is an ergonomic benefit, too – because we raise the planting surface off of the ground, gardeners have a much easier time tending their gardens.

Why does the Teich Garden System feature walkways?

Wide walkways permit gardeners easy access to every square inch of the planting surface.  We use over two tons of material in our walkways to provide a stable and sure-footed path
which doesn’t get muddy and allows use of gardening stools or benches.  Our walkways can be designed to accommodate handicapped access and various special needs.

How does the embedded watering system work?

The built-in watering system is emblematic of what we’re all about – ease and simplicity.  We attach a custom-made manifold to each Teich Garden System that delivers water to a solid brass faucet in each main garden bed.  Then, we attach soaker hoses to the internal faucets to direct water to the individual planting beds.  A garden water timer is then installed to allow your garden to become self-watering when needed.  We believe that this system is the most efficient way to water your garden; however the Teich Garden System is built to accommodate many methods of water delivery.

Please be aware that we install our gardens ready to connect the embedded watering system to a standard outdoor hose or other water connection at the garden site.  The homeowner is responsible to have water available at the garden site.

Why do we bring in garden soil for our raised beds?

We want all our customers to get the best possible results growing their crops or plants using their Teich Garden System.  Our gardens require approximately five thousand pounds of soil and we use only to quality garden soil and amenders.  This assures our customers are gardening in a clean, healthy growing medium.  When desired, we can mix custom soils to meet customer specifications for particular crops.

Where on my property can I place a Teich Garden System?

Working within the parameters of your town’s zoning ordinances, the garden structure can be placed almost anywhere that gets plenty of sun.  We can install gardens on hillsides, rocky terrain, and other inhospitable locations not previously considered.

How do I maintain my Teich Garden System?

Your Teich Garden System requires very little maintenance.  It is built with the finest quality materials to ensure many years of successful gardening.  Prior to winter frost it is necessary to disconnect the water source from the garden and bleed out the water from the line.  In the spring, prior to planting, the soil in your raised garden beds should be amended with compost.  The only other maintenance your garden will require is about an hour of staining the wood every few years.  We offer services to support your garden system.
